Abuja – An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2 on Thursday sentenced a man, Abdullahi Mohammed of Mabushi, Abuja, to three weeks in prison for stealing a generator valued at N120, 000.
Mohammed was accused of conniving with one Tunde, now at large to commit the offence.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Shafa, convicted Mohammed as he admitted committing the offence.
“The convict is hereby sentenced to three weeks in prison without any option of fine. “This is to serve as a lesson to you and others like you, who think that stealing must be a means to make a living,” Shafa said.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl Monday Akor, told the court that on March 5, one Yusuf Brima of Bwari Area Council Abuja came to Maitama to report the matter.
He said that the convict and one Tunde, now at large, connived and stole one 5.5kv Sumec Fireman generator, valued at N120, 000, from the complainant’s shop.
Akor said the shop was located near Emab Plaza Wuse 2, Abuja, and that the generator was recovered from one Mustapha Moh’d who the convict asked to sell it.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code Law
