The Ogun State chapter of the
Labour Party has approached the
state High Court in Abeokuta for a
stay of execution against the
judgment obtained by former state
Information Commissioner, Sina
Kawonise, last Monday, declaring
him as the authentic governorship
candidate of the party in the state.
Speaking with journalists in
Abeokuta on Tuesday, the state
Chairman and Secretary of LP, Bode
Simeon and Sunday Oginni
respectively, said this step became
necessary as Kawonise’s name was
not substituted as he had claimed.
“We had to approach the state High
Court to seek an appeal and stay of
execution on the judgment
obtained by Mr. Sina Kawonise. His
name never appeared in the list of
the governorship candidates
released by the Independent
National Electoral Commission,
because we never submitted his
name.” the LP chairman said.
Simeon added that the state LP had
reached a consensus and had
adopted the governorship
candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party, Gboyega Isiaka,
for the governorship election on
Saturday.
He said, “We in the Labour Party in
Ogun State and the national body
of the party had reached a
consensus and had adopted the
governorship candidate of the PDP
in the state, Gboyega Isiaka, as our
governorship candidate.
“At the beginning of this new
dispensation, he was with us in the
Labour Party before he later
defected to the PDP. He was the
last man standing before he left.
“We believe he is the man fit
enough to replace the ineptitude
administration that is currently
ruling in Ogun State.”
Kawonise had secured a court
judgment last Monday, reinstating
him as the party’s governorship
candidate in the state.
The court had also ordered the INEC
to list Kawonise as a governorship
candidate at the coming election.
