The alleged attack of communities in Enugu which led to the killing of 40 persons and burning of two churches led to anger that almost resulted in the lynching of a Hausa man yesterday at Ibom Plaza.
An eye witness told The Sensor that “while people gathered at the Plaza to read the day’s papers, most of the discussion centered around the clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Benue, Kogi, Abia and Enugu State, particularly the one which happened yesterday in Enugu. Suddenly as one Hausa man was passing by, one of the angry persons grabbed him, seized his showcase with which he sold wares and made to break it”.
The angry man whose identity could not be known claimed that the Hausas in the name of herdsmen were going about killing people in the South.
He said now that they have started killing people in Enugu, they could extend the evil to Akwa Ibom.
Some persons have claimed that those claiming to be herdsmen may indeed be Boko Haram terrorists.
Some respondents who spoke to The Sensor said there was need for heightened security in the State to protect the lives of all citizens no matter their State of origin and to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.
Furthermore, The Sensor gathered that in Ukanafun Local Government, the Fulani herdsmen have been barred from coming into the area with their cattle.
The Sensor learnt that persons who take out cattle to graze in the area are mainly indigenes.
