UPDATE: According to Evan Blass, the smartphone in the promo video is not related to the Ocean Note that will probably be announced next week.

We're just a couple of days away from HTC's big launch event, and information about the products that could be unveiled on January 12 continue to pop up online.

New details about one of the phones to be introduced next week have just been revealed by Evan Blass who published one of the promotional videos that will probably go live on January 12.

The so-called HTC Ocean is shown in the video, but that's not why we're so excited. It looks like HTC has found a way to use the edges of the display in a way that is actually useful.

The smartphone will allow users to scroll between various app by using the edges of the screen. In addition, you will also be able to tap on the edge of the display to open an application. The functionality seems more than a gimmick, but we're not sure how smooth it will work in real life.

In the video, HTC shows how you can quickly take a selfie by using the phone's new edge screen functionality. We believe there might be other uses for this feature, so we can't wait for the next week's announcement.

HTC is expected to launch at least two new smartphones on January 12. Previously leaked as HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play, the smartphones might feature the company's new UI. A third mid-range smartphone, the HTC One X10 will be announced in Q1, but an exact release date is unknown for the moment.
