Nemanja Matic began the summer as Manchester United's third choice central midfield target, according to the  Daily Telegrap h .
The Chelsea midfielder is on the verge of moving to Old Trafford for £40 million, but Jose Mourinho had wanted to sign either Eric Dier or Radja Nainggolan ahead of Matic.
A lack of movement over either of those deals has now led him to reuniting with a player he coached at Stamford Bridge.
