NSCDC parades 87 suspected fakeNYSC members

THE Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday
paraded 87 suspects believed to be fake members of the National
Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
NSCDC claimed the suspects were arrested Tuesday morning,
March 20, 2012 and were paraded before the media barely 24
hours after the arrest, without any form of investigation
whatsoever.
Briefing journalists at the corps headquarters in Abuja, NSCDC’s
spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh said the corps’ network led to the
arrest of the suspects in a guesthouse in Nasarawa Toto,
Nasarawa State.
‘They were camped by an acclaimed agent of NYSC in one
guesthouse called Loptic Guest House, along Shagari way,
Nasarawa.
The 87 suspects were undergoing illegal training where our men
arrested them with call-up letters and NYSC kits (uniforms and
booths).’
Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Commandant (Operations),
Nasarawa State command, Walter Chika Akubiroh said most of
the suspects are students of distance learning from various
universities across the country.
‘They were tricked to believe that they can serve like normal corps
members who have finished from conventional institutes of
higher learning.
They were camped in Nyanya for about four days before they
were taken to a hotel in Nasarawa Toto and they have been there
since 8th March, 2012, faking training with promises that they will
be taking to Zuba, FCT.
‘They were arrested yesterday (Tuesday) morning by our team of
disaster and terrorism departments. Although few of the suspects
escaped, we are still tracing for them.’
He further revealed that one Chinedu, who is allegedly the leader
of the syndicate was arrested in 2010 where similar arrest was
made of 64 suspects, adding that some claimed to have paid as
much as N30000 to N150000.
The Moment, however, got a letter dated March 21, 2012 and
addressed to the NSCDC’s Commandant General titled ‘Vital
information about the agents to the 87 fake Corpers arrested by
Nasarawa State Command.
