It brings some relief to learn that top Nigerian officials have reached a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram. It was reported that Chadian officials mediated the deal between the President's Principal Private Secretary Ambassador Tukur and Mr Danladi, a BH representative. And the CDS Alex Badeh has ordered defense chiefs to stop going after the Islamic terrorist sect.
Whether this development will bring relief to Nigeria in the long run or not, time will tell. But for now, I'm happy for the ordinary Nigerians, especially rural dwellers who have been been bearing the brunt of the bestial struggle for power.
But we must know the details of the agreement. What is Goodluck Ebele Jonathan offering BH? What is it that BH is asking for? Who asked for the ceasefire? Is it because BH have realised they're being hit hard or Nigeria is bowing the knees of her sovereignty? I hope the former was the case.
The FG must ensure Nigeria has the upper hand in the deal otherwise we may have to suffer heavily in the future for this momentary peace. Peace is not cheap. Cheap peace is costly.
