Anger in Osun community over teenager’s killing

There there was anger in Olodo
community in Ife South Local
Government Area of Osun State on
Tuesday following the killing of a
teenager by a log which fell off a
timber lorry.
The victim, an 18 year old Elijah
Omoloye, was said to have been
killed on the spot by the log which
fell on him on Friday.
Our correspondent gathered that
another person whose identify
could not be ascertained as of
press time was injured by the logs
which also fell from the same lorry.
The incident was said to have been
causing crisis which escalated on
Tuesday when an angry mob
stopped timber lorry drivers from
going about their business.
It was also gathered that other
businesses in the community were
paralysed while motorists deserted
the roads to avoid been caught in
the crisis.
However, another source said that
the timber lorry lost control and
killed Omoloye while the driver ran
away.
The assistant driver was said to
have been lynched by the angry
mob which trooped to the scene of
the accident.
Leaders in the town were said to
have appealed to the mob against
jungle justice but their appeals
were turned down.
The Public Relations Officer of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence
Corps in Osun State, Mr. Ayo Olowe,
confirmed the incident to our
correspondent on the telephone.
Olowe said, “A log fell from a timber
lorry and killed a boy while another
one was injured. This accident
triggered a protest in the town
today and business activities were
paralysed.
“The command will deploy its men
in the community to ensure that
the crisis does not escalate. We are
appealing to the people there to
allow peace to reign. We know how
they feel but two wrongs can never
make a right.”
