prisoners serving various jail terms in the state.

According to him” 14
prisoners serving
different jail terms in
Ondo State have been discharged out of prison following pardon granted
them by the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko .
The Governor’s gesture, Akinmade said” is in line with the power conferred
on him by section 212 (1) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria
1999, as amended.
The statement said the 14 who have all served portions of their terms were
granted amnesty on the ground of good conduct.
According to the Commissioner the gesture” is in exercise of the Governor’s
power to grant prerogative of mercy to convicts as conferred by the
Constitution of the country.
The Commissioner said that the Governor is empowered to pardon, free,
grant respite or substitute severe punishment with lesser one as form of
amnesty for convicts. Akinmade pointed out that the amnesty takes
immediate effect.
