17 vehicles burnt in fire incident
There was pandemonium at Unguwar Ma’azu a suburb of Kaduna metropolis on Saturday as a Tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded at a NNPC Mega II filling station killing three persons.
The incident which also left about 15 persons injured and 17 vehicles burnt occurred around 7pm on Saturday.
When The Nation visited the station, an eye witness, Mohammed Ibrahim said, “aside the three people who were burnt to death, about 15 others were injured.” They were rushed to Al-Tattbiq Islamic Hospital down there.
According to him, “the incident occurred when we were preparing for 7pm prayer. That tanker you are seeing there was filled with petrol. So, when it was being off-loaded, the fuel started spilling from the vehicle passing through other vehicles on queue waiting to buy fuel.
“But, when it was noticed, people were cautioned not to switch on their vehicles until the fuel dried off but a man in Golf 3 vehicle was said to have switched on his car and fire broke out.”
According to the eyewitness, “it was so pathetic as the driver of the Golf car who did not heed to the warning did not live to tell the story. He got burnt beyond recognition inside his car.”
Another eye witness, Umar Isa, who corroborated Ibrahim’s narration said, “The man died instantly while two others died before been rushed to hospital. 15 people were injured and are now receiving treatment at the hospital. The situation was so bad because those I saw at the hospital sustained serious degree of burnt and no serious medical attention given them since the hospital lacks equipment,” he said.
He also said about 17 vehicles on queue were completely burnt before fire service personnel arrived the scene.
