The Nigerian Police Force says it has arrested a notorious gang of armed robbers connected to the kidnapping and murder of an army officer, Samaila Yinusa, on March 27.
Mr. Yinusa was kidnapped by armed men at Kamazo in Kaduna Central on March 26, after he was trailed from an army barrack in Kakuri, where he was residing with his family.
A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, said investigations into the matter began shortly after Mr. Yinusa was found dead about five kilometers away from where he was kidnapped.
The investigations, which was done by the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Kaduna State Police Command, led to the arrest of a man identified as a prison warden named Abdullahi Adamu, a close associate of one of the prime suspects, the statement said.
The statement said Mr. Adamu was traced through the use of a techno phone in his possession, which belonged to Mr. Yunusa.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of two (2) of the prime suspects, namely: Ibrahim Kabiru 23, (also known as uztaz) and Ebele Precious 41 (pupularly called pastor).
“The gang leader Emeka Okeke Cyprain 44, and one other member of the syndicate, Chijioke Ugwuanyi, 42 (who goes by the nick-name: CJ) were later arrested,” the statement said.
According to the statement, a list of items were recovered from the gang, including an AK 47 rifle and two magnum pistols.
“Items recovered by the Police from this notorious gang, which specialised in car snatching and truck hijacking in the State and selling same to unsuspecting members of the public, include one AK 47 rifle, two magnum pistols, one Nissan Pathfinder Jeep and documents of six houses,” the statement said.
The statement said the suspects were in the custody of the police and wouldl soon be charged to court.
