ROM developer and HTC tipster @LlabTooFeR has sent a tweet with some good news for HTC One A9 users. The unlocked version of the mid-ranger is currently in the middle of receiving Android 7.0. The device was released more than 14 months ago with Android 6.0 pre-installed. The update is bundled with the latest security update for Android and also includes system enhancements. When you receive the notification that the update has arrived, make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network before you start downloading and installing Android 7.0. You should also make sure that the battery is charged to 100%.
The HTC One A9 came out after HTC co-founder and CEO Cher Wang had hinted about a Hero device that would be launching soon. That had everyone excited to see what HTC had up its sleeve. But something must have been lost in translation as the One A9 was the next model that was unveiled. And while there was nothing wrong with the device as a mid-range phone (except for the 2150mAh battery), it was not what one would consider a "Hero device."
The HTC One A9 carries a 5-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The Snapdragon 617 chipset is under the hood with an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU and the Adreno 405 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage. A 2TB capacity microSD slot is available for those seeking additional storage. The 13MP camera on back features OIS, and the 4MP front-facing camera takes selfies and handles video chats.
Android 7.0 features an improved version of Doze, which stops apps from running in the background after the phone has been idle for some time. This increases standby time and overall battery life. Android 7.0 also offers the new Unicode 9.0 emoji, and seamless updates. These load in the background while you use your phone, and the next time you boot-up your device you will find the update already installed.
