T-Mobile rolls out January security patch to the BlackBerry Priv Empty

BlackBerry has quickly become the fastest non-Google OEM to send security updates to its smartphones. The Canadian company announced in the first week of January that it has started seeding the January Android security update for some of its smartphones.

However, the update was only deployed to those Android smartphones bought through BlackBerry's online store, which means carrier-bounded devices were not eligible for the security patch.

The good news is many carriers in the United States have already released the update for any BlackBerry smartphones in their portfolios. T-Mobile announced recently that the January security update is available for the BlackBerry Priv.

The Uncarrier is now seeding Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow build number AAI459 to all Priv units purchased through its online, as well as brick and mortar stores.

Although T-Mobile has already updated BlackBerry Priv's support page to reflect the new change, aside from the fixes included in the patch, there aren't any other features or improvements mentioned in the changelog.

On a side note, we expect the next security update for the BlackBerry Priv to be rolled out by T-Mobile sometime in mid-February, seeing that the carrier released December and January patches on December 13 and January 17, respectively.
