RESIDENTS of Southern Kaduna State community of Zangang in Kaura local government were Saturday thrown into mourning, as invading gunmen killed not less than 15 people in a fresh attack. The gunmen who invaded the community in the early hours, wounded many villagers, burnt down their houses while others fled from their homes.

A resident of the area, Mr. Enoch Adong, who spoke with Journalists, said many villagers were still missing. He said, “The attackers came in two phases, they came through the hill side and another group came through the eastern part of the community. They surrounded the community and started shooting. They used both knives and guns to kill the villagers.”

According to him, the shooting started from 6 am to 8am, adding that, “it was within those two hours they were able to do what they did. They succeeded in killing villagers and injured many who are now in hospitals. The burnt down our houses, destroyed our properties.”

The names of those killed, according to some sources in the community include; Christopher Bakwap, Benjamen Ganda, Ladi Madugu, Adam Yakubu, Julius Barnabas, Garba Kushuwah and Martha Musa. Others are Michael Aboi, Gaje Lufuwai, Kefas Yusfu, Dauda Yusu, Joshua Bikau, Andrew Bikai, Sheying Immanuel and Gideon Adamu.

Another victim of the attack, Isuwa Jiga who escaped death narrowly said that the majority of victims were mostly youths who were on their way to the farmlands.

He said that over 1000 victims of the attacks had fled their homes and were taking refuge in neighbouring villages.

The local government chairman, Mr. Kumai Badu who confirmed the attacks described it as barbaric.

Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawan, who also confirmed yesterday’s siege, said the unfortunate incident occurred close to the village lying on a hill bordering Kaduna and Plateau State.

He however put the figure of those killed at 11. “It is true that Zangang was attacked this morning; the number of those killed are 11. Our men are already there.

You know that place is hilly and bushy. But they are combing the hills, and we expect them to come out with some result,” he said.

Meanwhile, Over 2000 people from Nimbia communities along Kaduna and Plateau States border in Jema’a local government have fled their homes following shootings and burning of houses by another gang of gunmen.

“They came to the village and burnt down about 10 houses and took off,” a resident of the area told reporters.

The chairman of Jema’a council area, Mr. Dan Amos has appealed to the people to return to their homes as government was committed to rebuilding the damaged houses.

He said some of the injured residents were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Borno State police commissioner, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, on Friday confirmed the incident.
