The Flying Eagles have progressed to the final round of the African Youth Championship qualifiers by defeating Tanzania 4-1 to win 6-1 on aggregate in Kaduna on Saturday.
Hosts Nigeria got an early lead in the 7th minute through Alhassan Ibrahim before visitors Tanzania drew level in the 17th minute after Banda Hassan fired past Flying Eagles goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo.
Musa Yahaya brought the West Africans back in front in the 34th minute and two minutes later, Awoniyi powered home third goal after several missed chances to hand the Manu Garba's side a comfortable lead going into the half time break.
The trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Bernard Bulbwa and Abdullahi Alfa all had chances to increase the tally but poor finishing denied them.
Later in the second half substitute
Chidera Eze made it 4-1 in the 69th minutes to complete the rout despite the Ngorongoro Heroes fighting back for a comeback towards the closing stages of the game.
Nigeria will face the winner of the
second round match between Lesotho and Angola in the third round of the African Youth Championship qualifiers to make finals to be hosted by Senegal in March next year.
The first leg game of the third round is scheduled for 15-17 August 2014 with the second leg game 29-31 August 2014.
