FIFA Appoints African Referee For World Cup Third Place Match

World football governing body, FIFA, has appointed Algerian referee, Djamel Haimoudi as the centre referee for the third place match
between Brazil and the Netherlands scheduled to take place on Saturday,
As a result of this FIFA’s decision, Haimoudi will become the first African referee to officiate a third place match of a FIFA World Cup.
During the ongoing Mundial in Brazil, the 43-year-old football referee has officiated the group-stage matches between Australia and Netherlands, Costa Rica versus England, as well as Belgium versus USA in the Round of 16.
According to a statement released on FIFA’s official website, Haimoudi oversaw two matches in last year’s FIFA Confederations Cup and he was selected for the FIFA Club World Cup 2012 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup
2011.

Haimoudi also has notable experience in his confederation CAF taking charge of three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations – in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
The Algerian was also the centre referee when Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.
Haimoudi had also officiated important matches in the CAF Champions League, including the final matches in 2008, 2012 and 2013 and the CAF Super Cup final in 2008.
Meanwhile, Argentina and Germany would play in the final match that will take place on Sunday, 13 July, 2014.
No African team has progressed beyond the quarter final of the world cup since the tournament started in 1930 in Uruguay.
Algeria and Nigeria were ousted from the football showpiece in the round of 16 against France and Argentina respectively.

many African refs will usually give yellow and red cards all the time to appear tough and wen I watch African cup, I am amazed at how many times the ref blow the whistle. its unfortunate but true, many African refs always involved in controversy and bribes etc. kudos to FIFA but if a ref is good, give him a final

The officiating tonight was not spectacular. Netherland first goal was not a penalty, also he should have awarded a straight red card to Thiago, he was the last man in the defence. Every referee has it's off day. Kudos to him for making the second best referee behind the Italian Man.

I don't blame d guy cos even d oyibo referees don make plenty blunders!
