Pastor nabbed for inflicting injuries on his sons

AKURE — A middle‑aged pastor of one of the Pentecostal churches in Ile‑Oluji area of Ondo State, Peter Etim, has been arrested for child abuse.
Parading the pastor in Akure, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ondo State Command, said he inflicted serious body injuries on two of his male children.
The two boys, Elijah (10) and Hope (, according to their father, stole N180 and also sold some wares in his shop on credit without his permission.
The suspect, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, said his boys’ actions made him lose his temper. The suspect was paraded at the state command headquarters.
Vanguard gathered that the pastor inflicted the injuries on his boys by using electric wire to beat them.
Speaking with newsmen on the development, the command image maker, Mr. Kayode Balogun, advised parents and guardians to be careful about the way they treat their children.
Balogun said children have some rights which needed to be protected under the Child Rights Act of Ondo State and the federation.
He said the suspect, with his two children, will be handed over to Child Rights Department of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ondo State for prosecution in line with the Child Rights Act of the state after concluding investigation.
