Former Police Affairs Minister and now gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame, has described the just concluded National Conference as mere waste of time and money against doing the correct thing.
“The National Conference was a waste of time. It was a waste of money, and it has shown that it is a waste of money because the correct thing has not been done”, he said.
Dr. Lame noted that there is an institution that was vested with the responsibility to do what the National Conference did, adding that the process was manipulated by the proponents of the conference.
“The National Assembly visibly in place is the body recognised by law to do that; proponents of the conference had tried to manipulate the process but it was not possible. We have to go back to doing the right thing and that is to allow the National Assembly to do the necessary amendments to the Constitution”, he said.
Lame, while fielding journalists’ question in Bauchi said the members of National Assembly as the duly elected representatives of the Nigerian people have the Constitutional power and authority to amend the Constitution.
The Bauchi APC gubernatorial aspirant stated that he doesn’t believe in the National conference as, according to him it is not the best way to handle problems of Nigerianns.
Commenting on the just concluded voter registration, Lame observed that the large turn-out of voters to register and collect permanent cards is an indication that they want their votes to be respected.
He therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue to do what is right so that credible Nigerians will be voted into power by the electorate.
Lame said that APC as a political party that has the capacity, understanding, knowhow, competence, and patriotism would when given the right atmosphere would solve the problems of Nigerians
