The government, therefore, restated its zero tolerance for the sale of livestock on highways.
A statement by the State Ministry of the Environment in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, said the warning became necessary following the setting up of illegal ram markets in some parts of the metropolis.
The statement, signed by Mr Fola Adeyemi, the ministry’s spokesman, listed areas where such illegal markets had sprung up as Otedola Housing Estate, Agege Motor Road, Ilupeju junction and the rail lines.
Others are Ijora, Surulere, Abeokuta Motor Road, Costain, Egbeda, Alaba, Okokomaiko and Olumegbon.
“While government appreciates the importance of rams to the celebration of Eid El Kabir, it is not a licence for people to contravene environmental laws.
