Guinea Police officers have reported the death of three football fans with one extremely injured in the hospital in capital Conakry.
Fans had gathered inside a public house to watch a game when a local man with prior military training discharged a grenade into the crowd.
One eyewitness told guineenews: “When the grenade exploded, I thought it was a short-circuit, but the noise was too loud and there was a lot of smoke. Luckily, the rest of my family couldn’t get here – if they had, they might have been killed.
Guinea had drawn their first game 1-1 against African giants Ivory Coast, but their captain Kamil Zayatte said that the incident had disrupted their celebration.
