Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set for a showdown with WWE Superstar 'Bad News' Barrett at Wrestlemania 31, following his 'dive' in United's FA Cup tie with Preston North End on Monday night.
Rooney won a penalty after avoiding contact with the legs of goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann, and subsequently sealed a 3-1 win, but Barrett - current Intercontinental champion and Preston local - went on to call the England captain out on Twitter.
How about that @WayneRooney dive vs @PNEFC? He won't need to dive when I catch up with him.. #BullHammer #BNB

Rooney played along with Barrett's tweet, even suggesting that he'd turn to WWE Hall of Famer 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin to help him out a little. But if Rooney wanted to team up with Austin, Barrett knew there was only one man he could turn to as his partner... Preston frontman Kevin Davies.
.@WayneRooney you and @steveaustinBSR Vs me and @Kevin__Davies at Wrestlemania in 6 weeks. Get it booked @VinceMcMahon.

Vinnie Mac does love a bit of celebrity star-power in at his biggest event - and Rooney would sure provide that given his exploits in the Barclays Premier League.
Davies is obviously never one to turn down a scuffle - even on the 'grandest stage of them all'...
@WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @steveaustinBSR @VinceMcMahon lets get it on!! #tagteam

And even that damn Rattlesnake himself got in on the act, poking fun at Rooney for his history with hair implants. Though he probably doesn't know the backstory.
@Robbanks1979 @WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @Kevin__Davies @VinceMcMahon Embrace the baldness. And that's the bottom line...

It's set then. The match will surely happen alongside the likes of Triple H vs Sting and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar's defence against one of or both of Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. Blockbuster.
One thing though; Rooney is going to have to jet off from England duty to take part on March 29th. Woy won't mind, will he?
Some very funny @WWE talk going on!!! @WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @steveaustinBSR fancy our chances Wade!!! pic.twitter.com/3AwJtE3DXG
