Yola— Five officials of the United Nations, the National Boundary Commission and Adamawa State Ministry of Land and Survey have been confirmed killed, while on a delineation mission to the border towns between Adamawa and the Republic of Cameroon. The officials, who were said to be on a mission to the area, were attacked by bandits from Cameroon. Adamawa State Commissioner for Justice, Silas Sanga, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the corpses have been returned to the state in preparation for onward movement to their states and country of origin. Meanwhile, suspected members of Boko Haram, Tuesday, ambushed a police patrol vehicle along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road, leading to the death of a policeman, while some of the attackers fled with bullet injuries. It was gathered that the incident took place around Kubuwa village of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack came barely four days after a group of insurgents ambushed motorists and military escorts around Komola village near Damboa, claiming over 10 lives. In Adamawa On the Adamawa/Cameroon border killings, Sanga, Adamawa Commissioner for Justice, said some of the victims of the attack have been confirmed to be indigenes of Kenya, Cameroon, Adamawa, Jigawa and Kano states. According to a report, the officials were in the area to study the boundary issue between Nigeria and Cameroon, when they were attacked by bandits. Another report alleged that the victims were attacked by Cameroonian gendarmes at Koncha, a border town between Cameroon and Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Already, a delegation of the Adamawa State government, led by the Deputy Governor, Martins Babale, is making plans to send the remains of the victims to their respective places. Boko Haram ambush in Borno On the Borno State Boko Haram ambush, the state Police Command, yesterday, confirmed the killing of the policeman through its spokesman, Mr. Victor Isuku, in a statement in Maiduguri, the state capital. Mr. Isuku said: “A police patrol vehicle from Biu Area Command, on investigation activity to Maiduguri, was ambushed by persons reasonably believed to be Boko Haram terrorists at Kubuwa village in Damboa Local Government Area. “The team fought gallantly, and were able to repel the attackers, who ran into the bush with some of them sustaining injuries. However, we lost a policeman, while another sustained gunshot injuries.” He said that the victim and the fallen policeman were taken to General Hospital, Damboa, and that the injured policeman was responding to treatment.
