Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed the
Gunners nearly signed Barcelona ace Lionel Messi –
only for him to decide to stay put at the last moment,
reports UK’s Metro.
It’s long been rumoured that Argentine superstar Messi
came close to moving to north London aged 16, with
various claims emerging as to why the deal didn’t
happen.
And speaking openly about it for the first time, Wenger
has revealed Arsenal did come close to doing a deal,
but Messi backed out and decided to stay.
Arsenal ended up going for Messi’s then team-mate
Cesc Fabregas, while they were also in talks for Gerard
Pique, only for him to snub a switch as well.
